The Rite of Springs

Bouncing Springs is yet another unique custom creation from the talented and inventive mind of Nicolas Bras. This instrument almost didn't happen... except by chance, Bras dropped a spring onto the hard floor of his workshop and fell in love with the sound. Definitely a happy accident!

With springs bouncing everywhere (and even sometimes into the microphones), Bras recorded different lengths of metal to get a full range of pitches. He also found a variety of different expressions and articulations captured in the randomness of the dropped springs. The result is a beautiful and detailed tonal metallic sound, perfectly at home in action sequences or even as otherworldly bells.
